Introduction to Mindfulness through Pottery with Astrid-Hogets Baerndal

Who is the course suitable for:

Adults of all abilities. For newcomers to mindfulness and experienced meditation practitioners. No previous meditation and/or pottery experience required.

Overview:

You will learn various hand-building pottery techniques, including using slabs, pinching/shaping, making a pottery stamp, glazing and decoration methods. You will see your works through the making process with soft clay, the addition of glazes after a bisque firing in the kiln, and the finished shiny stoneware pieces.
You will leave with up to 4 tea bowls and an understanding and experience of mindfulness and meditation.

Saturdays, 10am – 3pm, (8th and 22nd March 2025).
Please bring a packed lunch. Hot drinks will be provided throughout the day.

Day 1 – 8th March:

Begins with an introduction to mindfulness and a guided mindfulness meditation to centre your mind and spirit. Learn the art of pottery as you shape and mould your very own tea bowls.
You will also be introduced to a simple tea ceremony, learning about the benefits of mindfulness drinking (and eating).

Day 2 – 22nd March:

Continue your mindfulness journey with more meditative practices. Glaze and finish your tea bowls, creating beautiful, functional pieces which embody your calm.
If time allows, you will also be introduced to mindfulness mending and darning.

About Astrid Hogets Baerndal:

Astrid Hogets Baerndal is a professional artist who has had decades of international exhibitions. She combines her artistic practice with decades of mindfulness practice and teaching. She has an equivalent degree to an MA in Arts and Design and is a certified mindfulness teacher, teacher trainer and mindfulness coach at universities in London. She has also been a part-time staff member for six years at the Arts and Craft Workshops at Camphill MK.
