Pottery for All, Cottages and Pots with Sharon Williams

During this course, we will explore two main pottery techniques. These basic principles form a good foundation for a wide range of creative ceramic projects.

Part 1:

The first technique will focus on slab building to create small ceramic cottages. Students will learn how to roll out the clay to a suitable depth and understand what level of dryness is required to make the house stand up successfully. Then, they will join the slabs together to create 3D structures. We will use mark-making designs and slips to decorate and give the houses texture.

Part 2:

During the second part of the course, we will continue using slabs to create cylinders, building on your skills to create a vessel/pot with a fitting lid. Then, finally, create a matching spoon using pinch and moulding techniques.

Upon completion of the course, students will leave with:

  • Up to three cottages of various sizes.
  • Vessel with a lid that can be used as a storage jar and matching spoon.
