Camphill Milton Keynes Communities is a charity that provides unique person-centred support, based on a modern view of the Camphill movement, for adults with learning disabilities and autistic spectrum conditions, as well as for a number of people living in the Milton Keynes area who have a learning disability.

The Performing Arts Workshop (PAW) is seeking two passionate and skilled Support Workers to play a key role in delivering high-quality, inclusive performing arts experiences. This is a hands-on, dynamic role where no two days are the same!
The Performing Arts Workshop (PAW) Support Worker plays a vital role in delivering high‑quality, inclusive and inspiring performing arts experiences for adults with learning disabilities and autism. This role supports the smooth day‑to‑day running of the workshop, contributes to creative planning, provides hands‑on technical support, and helps maintain a safe, supportive and stimulating environment for all participants.
We are seeking applicants who can demonstrate skills in one or more of the following areas: dance, physical theatre, music production, media creation, or backstage/technical theatre work.
Key Responsibilities:
Supporting Service Users
- Support service users in all aspects of performing arts-related activities within the Chrysalis Theatre and on occasions in external settings.
- Provide training, encouragement, and meaningful support during PAW sessions, with a focus on skill-building for individual and group work.
- Prompt or assist individuals with personal or medical care needs, following support plans and risk assessments.
- Complete well-being reviews and achievement records with Participant input.
Workshop Delivery & Creative Activities
- Collaborate with the Workshop Coordinator to plan and deliver engaging projects tailored to individual abilities and group work.
- Set goals, record outcomes, and celebrate achievements.
- Work with other workshops to integrate technology, art and multimedia into drama and performance.
- Contribute to community celebrations, festivals and inclusive Camphill projects.
Technical, Safety & Operational Duties
- Carry out backstage and technical theatre tasks, including props, set building and stage support.
- Ensure the theatre and workshop spaces are safe, clean, and well-organised.
- Complete routine health and safety checks and report hazards or repairs.
- Maintain equipment in line with risk assessments and COSHH requirements.
- Co-Lead workshop activities in the absence of the Workshop Coordinator.
Training & Professional Development
- Participate in supervision, appraisal and reflective practice.
- Attend staff meetings and briefings as required.
- Engage in internal and external training for personal and professional development.
General Responsibilities
- Build positive, professional relationships with residents, colleagues, and external partners.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Represent Camphill Milton Keynes in a positive and professional manner.
- Follow all CMKC policies, procedures, mission, vision and values.
- Undertake any duties reasonably expected within the scope of the role.
Person Specification
- Practical experience or training in performing arts, drama, music, dance or backstage skills.
- Experience working in creative or practical environments as part of a team.
- Strong performing arts skill set, with a willingness to teach and share skills.
- Understanding of person-centred support.
- Knowledge of equality, diversity and anti-discriminatory practice.
- Basic knowledge of hygiene standards.
- Awareness of risk assessment, health & safety and safeguarding procedures.
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to engage and motivate adults with learning disabilities.
- Ability to assist in creative project development for diverse support needs.
- Confident sharing creative, practical or IT skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good IT skills (Microsoft Office).
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries.
- Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to follow policies and procedures consistently.
Desirable Criteria
- Training or qualifications in drama/performing arts teaching or facilitation.
- At least one year’s experience in theatre production, drama coaching or technical theatre.
- Experience teaching music, movement or dance.
- Care Certificate or Health & Social Care qualification.
- Experience supporting people with learning disabilities or additional needs.
- Experience in identifying learning/support needs and recording outcomes.
- Knowledge of moving and handling.
- Understanding of supporting individuals whose behaviours may challenge.
- Ability to mentor less experienced staff.
