1 Million Steps Challenge 2026
Camphill MK is taking on the Million Steps Challenge – Walking Together to France.
In May 2026, many of our residents took part in the Walking Festival organised by The Parks Trust. Together we explored new places, spent time outdoors, challenged ourselves, and discovered just how enjoyable walking can be when shared with friends.
Something wonderful happened.
Many residents began asking the same question: “When can we do something like this again?”
The Million Steps Challenge was born from that enthusiasm.
The Million Steps Challenge is a community-wide walking and fundraising initiative designed to promote wellbeing, physical activity, teamwork and community engagement across Camphill MK and beyond.
Starting on 29 June 2026, residents, staff, volunteers, families and friends will come together to take on an ambitious goal: walking one million steps as a community.
Together we will follow a symbolic journey from Milton Keynes through London, Dover, Calais and Disneyland Paris, before continuing towards the Atlantic Ocean. But this challenge is about much more than reaching a destination. It is about encouraging one another to be active, building confidence, improving wellbeing, creating friendships and proving that small steps really can lead to extraordinary achievements.
One of the things we love most about this challenge is that anyone can take part.
Whether you join one of our organised group walks, walk with family or friends, create your own team, or take part independently, every step will contribute towards the same shared goal.
We hope people from across the UK – and perhaps even further afield – will join us on this journey. Although we may be walking in different places, we will be connected by a single challenge and a single community.
Along the way, we will share photographs, stories, milestones and celebrations, allowing supporters to follow our progress and see just how far we can travel together.
By supporting this challenge, you will help us raise funds for Camphill Milton Keynes Communities, support our growing community, and create much-needed accessible homes for residents.
Every donation, no matter the size, helps us continue building a community where people with learning disabilities and autism can live, grow, learn and thrive.
So please support our journey!
Walk with us, cheer us on, share our story, or make a donation.
Together, let’s see just how far one million steps can take us.
The Journey

28th July: We’ve officially passed our original goal of one million steps! Thanks to everyone taking part, we’ve now reached an incredible 1,314,111 steps.
A special mention goes to our current top contributors:
🥇 Joanna – 368,500 steps
🥈 Trina – 350,904 steps
🥉 Teresa – 265,019 steps
🚶 Camphill Community Group Walks – 466,700 steps
Rather than stopping here, we’ve decided to continue the challenge until the end of September with a new theme:
How Far Can We Go?
We’ll keep counting every step and see just how far our community can travel together.
One of the best things about this challenge has been discovering where everyone’s steps have been taken. Although we’re all working towards the same goal, every journey has been completely different.
Joanna has taken us on an incredible adventure around the UK and beyond, walking the breathtaking coastline of Cornwall, exploring Pembrokeshire in Wales, and even hiking through north-western Spain.
Teresa has earned many of her steps while working in our Garden Workshop, caring for plants and helping to keep Camphill looking beautiful. After work, she has often joined our Community Walks with residents, proving that every step really does count.
Trina has reminded us that you don’t need dramatic scenery to make a difference. Many of her steps have simply come from walking to and from work, visiting friends, shopping, and fitting walks into everyday life.
And, of course, our Camphill residents have been at the heart of the challenge. Through our regular Community Group Walks we’ve explored parks, lakes, woodland paths and the beautiful surroundings of Milton Keynes. Even on the hottest days, when the sunshine has made walking a little more challenging, everyone has kept going with determination, laughter and plenty of encouragement for one another.
These journeys have made us consider that walking around the world would take about 52 million steps!
We’re still a long way from that, but every great adventure begins with a single step, and we’ve already taken more than 1.3 million together. Who knows? Perhaps one day we’ll be able to say that, as a community, Camphill really did walk around the world.
Thank you again to everyone who has walked, submitted their steps, shared their stories and encouraged others to join in. Every single step has brought us closer together—and now we’re excited to see just how far we can go.

16th July: We’re still going strong! Our group walk added an amazing 44,088 steps to our total. That means we’re getting closer and closer to Disneyland in our Million Steps Challenge. At this rate, next week’s Funky Club will be a Disney Party.
A huge well done to everyone who has been walking, cheering each other on and submitting their steps. Every single step counts – let’s keep moving and see just how far we can go.
If you can, please sponsor our walkers HERE!

6th July: Today our group walked an incredible 47,772 steps together! We even came across a fallen tree blocking our path, but that didn’t stop us! We simply ducked underneath it and carried on walking together. Well done, everyone! Every step brings us closer to France.

2nd July: We had a great turnout today, and together we smashed an incredible 119,000 steps! Well done, everyone! That also means we’ve officially reached London in our Million Steps Challenge! Thank you all so much for your support, enthusiasm and every single step you’ve taken. We couldn’t have done it without you!

29th June: Our very first walk of the Million Steps Challenge is complete. And what an amazing start! Together we walked an incredible 47,700 steps! A huge well done to everyone who joined us and helped kick off our journey. Every single step brings us closer to our goal!
