Camphill’s Unsung Heroes

On Saturday, 13th July, four of the Camphill MK team were invited to the Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, Countess Howe’s Unsung Heroes Garden Party. Our Facilities Manager Simon Death was invited for his work at Camphill, particularly working diligently behind the scenes to drive forward our big build plans.  Simon has significant responsibility in a very small team of two, undertaking all risk assessments, health & safety audits, site repairs, contract management and planning for future changes to our sites. His work has grown as he took on the client role for us when working with our contractors, Watson & Cox, who are currently building our first of 6 new accessible houses.

Guests at the event were entertained by Amersham Brass Band and treated to a sumptuous afternoon tea after being welcomed by Countess & Earl Howe and the new Vice Lord-Lieutenant Sir Francis Habgood QPM DL.

Xue Liu, who creates the tasty dishes in our Café, was also celebrated for her work in the charitable sector, particularly her years with the MK Christian Foundation. We were also pleased to see our long-term volunteer, Joan Harris, celebrated. Joan commits a significant amount of time to the service of others and accompanying local choral groups on her piano. Joan chose to invite support worker Guimin as her guest.  Guimin has worked in several of our workshops (currently our gardening team and tech lab) and is hugely important in supporting our residents.

Well done to all! You deserve it!
