Goal Mole – The Movie

A few years ago, we introduced the Wish Fish project, which encouraged residents to share a wish and receive support from staff to help make it happen. The project was a great success, with residents achieving a wide range of wishes, both big and small.

We felt that it was the right time to refresh and re-energise the community project. The impact of Wish Fish has already been extremely positive. We have seen an increase in meaningful activities and holidays for residents, as well as a greater focus on supporting individual aspirations.

To build on the same positive principles while encouraging residents to think more broadly about what they would like to do or achieve, we launched Goal Mole and our Newsletter Workshop produced a film to introduce and explain the initiative.

It’s been a fun and collaborative project that brought together many different skills across the workshop and beyond. This included Oli’s filming, the directing roles of Lucy and Chloe, and the enthusiastic participation of many other residents and staff.

The film’s script is based on the theme song Rachel wrote, which Tom added music to. Interestingly, we produced the film with AI assistance. The character of the mole — also developed using AI tools including ChatGPT and MiniMax — was designed to be friendly, warm, and encouraging. Just as importantly, using these tools was a practical way for both staff and residents to challenge ourselves and stay up to date with new creative technologies.

The project involved many people across the community, with residents and staff contributing by appearing in the film, taking part in filming sessions, and sharing photos and creative work from past projects. The film brings together newly recorded video, archive photos, and clips, woven into a single piece.

One of the main challenges was combining all these different elements in a way that fairly represents the many people involved, while also carefully matching the images to the song and its message. The result is a collaborative film that reflects the community and offers a warm, positive message about effort, support, and believing in ourselves.
