World Down Syndrome Day 2026

On Saturday, 21st March ’26, we celebrate World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD).

Around the world, people celebrate this day to show support, friendship and inclusion for people with Down Syndrome. We’ve had lots of activities planned to celebrate.

Our Tech Lab & Newsletter workshop participants make this film featuring residents and staff from our community. The film highlights the achievements, aspirations, and everyday lives of people with Down Syndrome and their families. We hope you enjoy watching the report.

Our Pennyland Craft group and Funky Club made colourful paper socks to celebrate the day. We combined all the socks into a large garland, which will be displayed in a special place in the community.

We organised a community-wide mismatched socks activity. One of the most popular ways to celebrate is by wearing different (mismatched) socks. The idea is simple – being different makes our community more colourful and interesting. Our residents and staff wore different socks to celebrate, educate and broaden the conversation.

Our team also organised a World Down Syndrome Day Quiz, which went out to all the houses. Part fun, part education, who doesn’t love a quiz?!

We also learned about the US actor, Zack Gottsagen, who was born with Down Syndrome. In 2019, he acted in a film called “The Peanut Butter Falcon.” In the film, he plays a young man who sets out on an adventure to pursue his dream. Zack has travelled around the world, met many actors and walked on the red carpet at film festivals. Today, Zack continues to act and share his story with others. Zack shows us that everyone can have dreams and achieve great things.

We are thankful to everyone for helping us celebrate difference, friendship and community.
