Camphill MK celebrates Halloween 2024

Happy Halloween!

We’ve been a hive of activity in the run-up to Halloween, as it’s got to be one of our favourite times of the year. Here’s what our residents have been up to.

Tracy’s Window

Halloween has got to be one of the best times of the year for Tracey. She started decorating her house at the beginning of the month to inspire us.

Fun Crafts in Soltane

The residents of Soltane house decided to get crafty one evening and made ‘spooktacular’ craft figures out of wooden lolly sticks.

Spider Web-Off

Tracy represented Willowood in the Halloween spiderweb-off, and Jaye represented Sunwood. Both Jaye and Tracy made some impressive webs out of bin bags!

Jaye says: “Halloween decorations are always good and fun to make, and the parties are good and fun.” Tracy agreed, “The best thing about Halloween is the costumes and decorations!”

Pumpkin Carving

It wouldn’t be Halloween without pumpkin carving! Here are Anna and Lou doing a wonderful job.

Apple Bobbing

Apple bobbing is much harder than it looks but the ladies did a great job!

A Visit from a Witch

As she does every year, the witch visits our houses. Since she is very friendly, a few of us join her for some trick-or-treating. Mostly, we admired the decorations and the costumes of all the kids, but we also accidentally managed to score a few sweets along the way!

Oli at a Pumpkin Farm

Our resident Oli went to MK Pumpkin Farm and had a great time.

Halloween Short Story Writing Competition

Over the last few weeks, the Creative Writing Workshop has run a Halloween short story writing competition. The stories everyone created were amazing and full of Halloween tricks and treats. We had joint winners Alex J with Blue Moon House, and Callum B with The Shadow. Liam D came 2nd with The Witches Cat, and joint 3rd came Jack W-A with Eve Potter and Andrew M with The Cackling Witches.

Here is Alex’s winning piece:

Blue Moon House by Alex J

Had Ash, Tabitha, Sammie and Jean looked out of the window of the old house they lived in, the four would have never stayed that Halloween. The woodlands that could be seen from the sitting room window was always overgrown with firs, ash, beech, maples, (and other trees the girls could not name) stretched before their eyes. Walking out of the back door they all stood in the back garden, the moon shining blue down on them. A creaking behind the girls made them turn around and step back in fear.

The old house shifted, stone and wood came loose and tore itself free from its foundations, turning towards them. The front of the house was jagged, the front door was a mass gaping hole while the top two main windows smashed to the ground leaving large gaping holes in their place. Inside the main boiler erupted blasting hot steam out of the main entrance…

The House howled and crashed down on them, they screamed.

In the blue light of the moon the house settled back in its place just before a police car rounded the corner onto the street, nothing was wrong as the police car drove by.

Halloween Bake-Off

We are super proud of all the houses that took part in the Halloween Bake Off—another brilliant time had by all the houses that entered.

1st place went to Kirklington with the brain.

2nd was MP with the eyes on the ring. It got very spooky when an eye rolled off and along the table!

3rd was Whitethorn with their spooky, colourful cupcakes.

Halloween Disco

We hosted our annual Halloween Disco and sighted many amazing costumes. Everyone had a blast with fancy dress and dancing.
