PRIDE Month
This June is PRIDE Month, and we at Camphill MK want to celebrate inclusion, diversity, and love!
Sadly, sometimes, it is still the case that people with learning disabilities and autism are somehow seen as separate from general society, perhaps not even having sexuality. But, of course, people with all disabilities have the same range of sexual identities as the rest of the population.
Find out what Aaron, who wrote this interesting blog called ‘Proud To Be Me’ for LGBT Health, says about his experience as someone with both physical and learning disabilities, outlining some great points about Pride Month.
Here’s another interesting blog from Abacus Care Support about PRIDE, Supporting LGBTQI+-identifying people with Learning Disabilities. It discusses challenges and can be done because “Everybody deserves to be treated with respect and compassion when it comes to expressing and discussing their gender, sexuality and relationships. This is equally true for people with learning disabilities.”
For those who want to know more about the statistics relating to the LGBTQI+ community with learning disabilities and autism, Mencap has published an interesting sexuality research article because “Relationships are very important to people with a learning disability.”
We’re also sharing our love and acceptance with our residents who may identify as LGBTQ+ and in recognition of the positive contribution that the LGBTQ+ community offers to our community in the form of our staff and supporters.
Here’s to inclusion, diversity, and love!
