Journey from Alchemy to Chemistry
Our residents attended a fascinating workshop called 1001 Inventions – Journey from Alchemy to Chemistry held at Milton Keynes Central Library.
The workshop is part of celebrating the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements by acknowledging the contributions and achievements of people from all cultures.
An important figure from the Islamic world was the 7th-century alchemist Ibn Al-Haytham, who invented many important instruments, such as the distillation device, that helped advance science.
The workshop was highly engaging, with live performance, audience discussion and hands-on experiments. We revised our old knowledge and refreshed our understanding of acid, alkaline and neutral properties and how chemistry is applied in baking, making soaps and perfumes, etc.
Everybody enjoyed the session so much that we didn’t want to leave!
